Review: Hautelook vs Gilt Groupe
Discount Sales on Authentic designer, or luxury Items for Less! Sometimes 50-75% off the item! Hautelook and Gilt Groupe are the two major sites that visit religiously (or additively) everyday at 11am and noon. Hautelook sales are based on PST time so, they start at 11am EST. Gilt Groupe’s sales start at noon EST.
Both these sites are setup to “first-come-first-serve” basis. First person to spot the item they want, they will get! The items are placed in your cart for 15minutes and if you don’t checkout, it will be placed back into the queue for other people to purchase (if it runs out). 
Major differences between the two sites:
- Hautelook Items are targeted towards more 20 year olds… and Gilt is more for high end mature 30 year olds. (most of the time)
- Prices: Hautelook items are less expensive than items on Gilt – but you pay for the quality. Gilt group has a lot of jewelry items made out of diamonds and high quality materials, as Hautelook sells CZ Jewelry.
- User Interface: Both are very very similar, however.. Gilt Groupe’s colors (black and gold) gives it a more high class feel, and the best part is that – under each product before purchase, there is a clear indication of “delivery delay”. Due to the fact that you’re getting a great discount/deal off a designer item, you might have to wait.. On Hautelook, there is no such warning so sometimes it can take up to 6 weeks+ to receive your item… It’s way better to know when the item will arrive, in case you are looking for a bday gift that has a timeline.
- Upside: Sometimes you can get DEEP discounts on awesome items (dresses and watches)…. Downside: The LONG wait time until you can receive the item. Guess you can buy and “forget” it..and get surprised when it arrives
- Sometimes items aren’t the cheapest. Example: Hautelook just had their makeup discount event on NYX. Turns out you can get it $8 dollars CHEAPER at Ulta’s 40% sale. Ridiculous right?
- Sometimes you won’t get what you want. You login, theres sooo many items that you want to take your time with to look.. but during that time.. within the minute, someone could put it in their cart and leaves you hanging! You never know how many quantities are available for EACH product so you have to ACT fast. That’s actually the marketing strategy/ploy that they have to get customers to buy. Studies did show that within a few seconds of showing the features of a product, the user will know immediately if they want it or not. If they are swaying and given a timeline, most of the time they will give in because of this “urgency” factor. Hence. This is my shopaholic habit – shop for the THRILL of getting the item before anyone else. So, I suggest going in with an open mind
- Tips? Well. When you see something you remotely LIKE, put it in your cart! You have 15min to look it over.. and open multiple tabs
